Patricia is the Executive Industry Editor of Food Quality & Safety. She started her food safety journey in the meat and poultry industry just as HACCP became a focus. Her shift into the testing arena was driven by the explosion of environmental Listeria contaminations and, eventually, her technical focus expanded to include third-party auditing and inspections. Since 2012, her consulting firm has provided clients access to knowledge and experience in several critical areas. She opened the nonprofit AFSAP, the Association for Food Safety Professionals, in 2017 to advocate for food safety auditors and helped shape many of the FSMA auditing regulations. AFSAP’s scope was reviewed and expanded during the pandemic. Patricia is an accomplished subject matter expert on the U.S. testing market (both pre- and post-FSMA), auditor competency, and training development and implementation of the Preventive Controls Rules. Her clients represent a wide spectrum in food manufacturing and include the California Attorney General (lead residues in supplements), developing import/export strategies for Brazil, and special projects as an ANSI Technical Assessor and subject matter expert for the ongoing FSMA requirements for Accreditation Bodies.
